There's New Hope for Memphis Youth Mental Health: Children & Youth Wellness Center Coming Soon

A Better Answer for Families in Crisis

When a child experiences a mental health emergency, families often don't know where to turn. For too long, the only options in Memphis were crowded emergency rooms or involvement with law enforcement. Families in Shelby County deserve better.

We are proud to share a first look at the Children and Youth Crisis Wellness Center. It's a new facility by Alliance Healthcare Services designed to change the landscape of youth mental health in Memphis. As you can see in the video above, it is a place built specifically for healing, safety, and hope.

The Doors Open Soon

Construction is nearly complete, and we are preparing to open our doors in the coming months. Located at 602 Malcomb Street, our new center sits adjacent to our adult Crisis Wellness Center, creating a unified campus dedicated to helping people of all ages get the support they need.

Built for Children & Youth Ages 4 to 17

This facility is designed specifically for children and youth ages 4 to 17. Because a crisis can happen at any time, the center will offer 24/7 crisis assessment and stabilization services. Whether it's the middle of the school day or the middle of the night, families will have a safe place to go for immediate help.

It Doesn't Look Like a Hospital... And That's the Point.

If you watched the video above, you may have noticed that the inside of our building doesn't look like a typical hospital. That was a deliberate choice.

We used a design approach called Trauma-Informed Design, meaning every color, light fixture, and piece of furniture was selected to help reduce anxiety.

  • Soothing Colors: Calming teal blues and greens replace stark white walls.

  • Natural Light: Large windows let in sunlight, which supports improved mood.

  • Nature Themes: Murals of trees and nature create a grounded, peaceful atmosphere.

The goal is simple: from the moment a child walks through the doors, they should feel safe rather than scared.

Here's What Your Child Will Have Access To

Of course, our Children and Youth Crisis Wellness Center is about more than thoughtful architecture; it's about providing the right care to keep our kids safe. Our facility includes:

  • Crisis Stabilization Units: Private rooms for children who need short-term, intensive care.

  • Therapy Spaces: Rooms designed for individual and group therapy, as well as family counseling.

  • Recreation Areas: A secure outdoor courtyard with a basketball court, because physical activity is a vital part of mental health.

By delivering these services promptly, we help divert youth away from emergency rooms and the juvenile justice system. Our goal is to stabilize the crisis and connect families with the long-term support they need.
