A house provided by the City gives our school-based team a home in the fastest-growing city in Shelby County

On Monday, September 28, Alliance Healthcare Services and the City of Millington cut the ribbon on a new partnership. The goal is simple: bring mental health support closer to Millington students and families.

A new home for student mental health in Millington

The City of Millington has provided a house for Alliance at 8133 Wilkinsville Road. It gives our school-based team a place to meet with students and families. It's close to where they live and go to school.

Mayor Larry Dagen, City Manager Frankie Dakin, and Alliance CEO Laurie Powell spoke at the ceremony. School leaders, City staff, board members, and our team joined them. After the ribbon cutting, guests met inside the house.

Why Millington

Millington is the fastest-growing city in Shelby County. It has grown about 22% since 2020, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. As the city grows, so do the needs of its students and families.

This partnership started earlier this year. Laurie Powell, Samantha Hammonds, and Damonique Miller visited the house with Mayor Dagen, his team, and Millington Municipal Schools Superintendent James "Bo" Griffin to talk about what Millington families need.

Our School-Based Behavioral Health team already works at Millington Primary School. The house gives that work a home outside the school building, where families can come together after school.

What happens next

These plans are still taking shape. They will grow with what we learn from the Millington community.

This fall: Our Millington School-Based Behavioral Health Liaison will begin using the house for family therapy and group sessions in the afternoons.
Listening first: We'll ask residents and partners what they need, starting with a short survey at the house. With the City, we also plan to offer Therapeutic Options training in the community.
Growing our services: We're working toward a state license for the site. Then we can add more outpatient mental health care, based on what the community needs.
A steady presence: We plan to add a Care Coordinator. This person will help families connect to care and work closely with the City. They'll also help residents meet with our therapists by video (telehealth).

Right now, our School-Based Behavioral Health Liaison serves Millington Primary School. If your child attends Millington Primary, ask the school counselor about connecting with our liaison.
