About Laurie

Laurie Powell is the Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Healthcare Services, leading the organization in its mission to promote wellness and recovery for individuals and families across Memphis and Shelby County. She began working for Alliance Healthcare Services (then Southeast Mental Health Center) in 1993, initially serving as a therapist for 10 years before advancing to clinical supervisor and grant writer, eventually becoming CEO in 2018. Laurie was even named as one of Memphis Magazine's CEOs of the Year in 2025!

She holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's degree in social work from the University of Memphis, and she is a licensed social worker. With that background in sociology and social work, Laurie brings both clinical insight and strategic vision to her role, overseeing a team of more than 400 professionals who deliver comprehensive behavioral health, addiction, housing, peer, and crisis services to over 25,000 people each year.

Laurie is passionate about expanding access to quality care and fostering partnerships that strengthen the community. Under her leadership, Alliance has continued to innovate and grow, ensuring that clients receive support grounded in compassion, evidence-based practice, and a commitment to equity. Laurie’s dedication to service and her collaborative approach help drive Alliance’s impact and reputation as the region’s leading behavioral health provider.
