On April 8, 2026, staff members and partners gathered at Turning Point Peer Support Center on Summer Avenue to celebrate something simple and powerful: a room designed for peace.
The ribbon cutting for The Oasis marked the opening of a brand-new quiet room at Alliance Healthcare Services' peer-led recovery support center, one of only two in the Shelby County region. It was a small ceremony for a space with a big purpose.
Introducing The Oasis

Not every moment of recovery looks like a group session or a conversation. Sometimes it looks like sitting still.
The Oasis is a designated quiet room inside Turning Point, built as a low-stimulation space for relaxation, meditation, prayer, or simply taking a breath when the day feels heavy. It's calm, comfortable, and free of distraction.
"This is a quiet place," said Marta Hernandez. "The room is intended to be a quiet place and a moment of peace."
The room was designed with Turning Point members in mind. Recovery is not linear. Some days are harder than others. The Oasis is there for those days, a place to step away, recharge, and return to yourself.
Self-Regulation in Recovery

Quiet rooms are an evidence-informed tool in behavioral health settings. They provide a low-stimulation environment where individuals can self-regulate their senses, manage stress, and find calm without intervention.
For a peer support setting, a space like this carries extra meaning. Recovery affects the whole person. Physical comfort, sensory regulation, and emotional safety are all part of the healing process. The Oasis reflects the belief that the environment itself can be therapeutic.
It also reflects the values that define Turning Point: that recovery happens best when people feel safe, seen, and supported in every dimension of their experience.
Peer Support in Memphis
Memphis has a need for peer support services. Turning Point answers it. As one of only two peer support centers in the Shelby County region, its role in the local recovery community is significant.
Alliance Healthcare Services has been part of Memphis for more than 50 years, building wellness in the community, one person, one family at a time. Turning Point is one expression of that mission: a space where people find their people, where lived experience is a credential, and where recovery happens at every pace.
If you or someone you know could benefit from peer support, Turning Point is open. Drop in. Find your people. And if you need a moment, The Oasis is waiting.

What Is Turning Point?
Turning Point is not a clinic. It doesn't feel like one, either.
Located at 4088 Summer Avenue, Turning Point is Alliance's peer support center, staffed entirely by Certified Peer Recovery Specialists. These are people who have walked the road of recovery themselves, who are trained and certified by the State of Tennessee, and who show up every day because they know what it's like to need support.
Peer support is different from therapy or case management. It's built on shared experience. When you walk through the doors at Turning Point, you're not a patient. You're a person, and you'll find people who've been there.
Turning Point offers drop-in support groups, wellness planning, and creative activities. It's also connected to Alliance's full continuum of care, including therapy, crisis services, addiction treatment, and housing support, for when members need more.
