When Cancer Touches Your Family

Mental health support matters more than ever in our partnership with West Cancer Foundation to provide free mental health care to cancer patients and caregivers.

Cancer doesn't just attack cells. It attacks hope, peace of mind, and the emotional well-being of entire families.

If you've ever watched someone you love go through cancer treatment, you know this truth. The physical battle is obvious. The chemo, the appointments, the exhaustion. But there's another battle happening simultaneously. One that's often invisible.

The mental health battle.

The Hidden Struggle

When Emma Blau, one of our therapists at Alliance Healthcare Services, recently appeared on local news, she shared something that speaks to that invisible struggle: "Caregivers are often forgotten about because they're healthy."

The person driving to endless appointments, managing medications, holding it together for everyone else. They're struggling too. But because they don't have the diagnosis, their pain can often go unnoticed.

A Partnership with West Cancer Foundation

That's why we're excited about our new partnership with the West Cancer Foundation. It started when a cancer survivor saw the real need for mental health support in the cancer community.

He understood that a cancer diagnosis affects more than just the patient. It ripples through families, creating waves of anxiety, depression, and fear.

Through this partnership, we're offering free counseling services. Not just for cancer patients, but for their caregivers too. Because healing isn't just about treating the cancer. It's about treating the whole person and the whole family.

Emma puts it perfectly: "Everybody just needs a space to be able to come and talk openly."

Sometimes that means processing fear. Sometimes it's helping someone find hope again. And sometimes it's giving a caregiver permission to acknowledge their own struggle.

You're Not Alone

If cancer has touched your life, whether you're the patient or the person holding their hand, your mental health matters just as much as your physical health.

The fear you're feeling? Valid. The exhaustion that goes beyond being tired? Real.

We're honored to partner with the West Cancer Foundation to make sure no one faces this journey alone.

Speaking of support, the West Cancer Foundation hosts West Fight On every September. It's a beautiful day where survivors are celebrated, memories are honored, and about 2,000 people show up to run, walk, or bike together. This year it's September 6th at Shelby Farms, and there's something powerful about being surrounded by people who get it.
