Medication Assisted Therapy
Medication-Assisted Therapy (MAT) is a comprehensive approach to treating substance use disorders, particularly opioid and alcohol addiction, that combines medication with counseling and behavioral therapies. It aims to normalize brain chemistry, relieve cravings, and restore balance to brain circuits affected by addiction.

Reclaim Your Life with Medication-Assisted Therapy
Breaking free from addiction doesn't have to be a battle you fight alone.
What if recovery could feel different this time?
Maybe you've tried to quit before. Maybe you've white-knuckled it through detox, only to find yourself right back where you started. Here's what we've learned after helping thousands of people in Memphis: willpower alone isn't enough when you're fighting a disease that literally rewires your brain.
It's not just about the medication
Think of MAT like treating diabetes. You wouldn't tell someone with diabetes to just "try harder" to control their blood sugar, right? You'd give them insulin and help them learn how to manage their condition.
That's exactly what we do with addiction.
Our MAT program combines:
FDA-approved medications that reduce cravings and ease withdrawal
One-on-one counseling tailored to your story
Group therapy with people who truly get it
Life skills support to rebuild what addiction took away

Here's how we walk alongside you
Phase 1: Getting Started (Induction)
We meet you exactly where you are. Our medical team carefully monitors your first weeks, adjusting medications to keep you comfortable while your body begins to heal.
Weekly doctor visits • Twice-weekly counseling • Daily support
Phase 2: Finding Your Footing (Stabilization)
Cravings start to fade. You begin sleeping through the night again. We work together on building coping skills and addressing the deeper issues that fuel addiction.
Bi-weekly medical check-ins • Continued counseling • Peer support groups
Phase 3: Living Your Life (Maintenance)
This is where the real work happens. You're stable on medication, engaged in therapy, and ready to tackle goals that seemed impossible before—like repairing relationships, finding meaningful work, or simply being present for your kids.
Monthly visits • Ongoing support • Life skills coaching
"Will I be on medication forever?"
That's up to you and your medical team. Some people find they do best with long-term medication support. Others gradually taper off when they're ready. There's no right or wrong timeline—only what works for your recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What medications does Alliance use in Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT)?
Alliance Medication Assisted Therapy primarily uses buprenorphine (Suboxone) and Vivitrol (extended-release naltrexone), chosen based on your specific needs, history, and treatment goals. Your Alliance provider reviews the options with you and prescribes the medication that gives you the best chance of long-term recovery.
How long does Medication Assisted Therapy typically last?
MAT at Alliance typically lasts 120 to 180 days, but the right timeline depends on you. Some people benefit from longer treatment; others step down sooner. Your Alliance provider works with you to adjust the length of your MAT based on your progress, stability, and personal recovery goals.
Does Alliance MAT treat alcohol use disorder as well as opioids?
Yes. Alliance Medication Assisted Therapy treats both opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder. Vivitrol is FDA-approved for both. Your Alliance provider can prescribe the right MAT medication for your situation, paired with counseling, peer support, and other recovery services offered through Alliance.
Can I keep working while I'm in MAT?
Yes. Alliance MAT is built to fit into your life, not the other way around. Most clients work, parent, attend school, and meet other responsibilities during treatment. Appointments are scheduled around your day, and the medications used in MAT do not produce a high or impair function.
Does insurance cover Medication Assisted Therapy at Alliance?
Yes. Alliance MAT is covered by TennCare, Medicare, BlueCare, Cigna, Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, United Healthcare, and Wellpoint. If you don't have insurance, ask about the sliding-scale fee and the Behavioral Health Safety Net Program. No one is denied addiction care due to inability to pay.
